Dr. Courtney A. Hammonds, known as The Dean of Fashion™, is a cultural architect based in Atlanta working across fashion, education, and institutional systems. Shaped by early life in Columbus, Georgia and formative years in Berlin, Germany, he brings a global perspective grounded in transnational cultural fluency. His work translates creative expression into structured systems—designing frameworks that align culture, organizations, and long-term value creation with precision, clarity, and strategic intent.
At Upscale Magazine, he serves as Senior Fashion Editor, contributing to discourse on fashion, culture, and industry relevance. As a Professor at Capella University, he teaches doctoral-level business and human resources, mentoring emerging academic and executive leaders shaping the future of leadership and institutional practice.
Through his consultancy, CAH & Co., he advises Edessa School of Fashion, Startupbootcamp FashionTech, and the St. Lucia Fashion Council on structuring education systems, innovation platforms, and fashion pipelines into coherent, future-facing models.
His career spans luxury retail, academia, and curriculum development, including co-founding URUP Design Luxury Boutique, serving in human resources leadership at Neiman Marcus as Assistant HR Manager, and serving as Academic Director at The Art Institute of Atlanta, where he developed a SACS-accredited Fashion Design program and contributed to curriculum initiatives with Gap Inc.
His foundation in special education shapes a sustained focus on human development—how individuals learn, grow, and navigate systems not originally designed with them in mind—informing his approach across fashion, education, and organizational design.
His industry footprint includes engagement with André Leon Talley, Tim Gunn, Alek Wek, Fern Mallis, June Ambrose, and Nicolas Ghesquière, alongside appearances on ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, InStyle, WWD, Project Runway, and The South Got Something to Say.
His creative work includes HERE, a fragrance collaboration with Dragon Perfumes exploring identity and memory, and a foreword for The Fashion Blueprint focused on brand building and creative entrepreneurship.
He holds a B.S. from Alabama State University, an MBA from Keller Graduate School of Management, and a Doctorate in Business Administration from Argosy University, grounding his practice in applied strategy, leadership, and academic rigor.
Recognized by Alabama State University’s 50 Under 50, Capella University Teaching Excellence Award, Modern Luxury Men of Style, and Atelier Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People, his work spans culture, education, and industry systems.
At its core, his philosophy is systems-based: when vision and values align, creativity becomes infrastructure—shaping cultural and institutional impact.
